I'm missing the point of having the Xbox and SmartGlass apps, both, installed.
They seem to do, pretty much, the same thing, to me.

I'm using it on Windows 10 Mobile (hence the forum section).
The Windows Phone 8 versions may be more separated.

I have asked myself this question as well, I am not a massive gamer so tend to use Smartglass more as it makes more sense for media stuff.

But what they plan to do for the future updates wise I don't know.

Ok...
The biggest difference, that I'm seeing, is that Xbox seems more geared toward local games and Xbox SmartGlass seems more geared toward console games.
For instance...
On my computer, Xbox shows me games that are installed on that computer.
Xbox SmartGlass shows games that are installed on the console.
Through Xbox, I can start games that are installed on that computer.
Through Xbox SmartGlass, I can start games that are installed on the console.
Aside from that difference, they seem very similar.

One thing that I would like to see on the SmartGlass app, though, is the ability to see all the games installed on the console.
At this point, it seems to only show what's on the first section (recent plays) and pinned items.
For instance, I downloaded some games (from work) and I would like to be able to see if they are installed.
