Hello,
I need some help here. Today, I spent 4 hours just to edit mp3 info and add covers to my music library. The job finally done. But before I could enjoy my work, the Xbox Music app punched me right in the face...
When I check my album on my phone, this app only shown blank covers... And even worse, it kept crashing whenever I play a song... Big frustration... More ridiculous, those mp3's played well on my PC, with cover, and info, of course... Those mp3 even played well with built-in player in Microsoft's own Files app...
The Xbox Music app worked well with me before, even with edited mp3's. I've tried soft-resetting but no result. I really don't want to use another player since I like Xbox Music's UI... So if anybody got a solution, please help.
Thank you in advance.

I believe you're experiencing not one but two issues. I am too experiencing the same issues. The lack of Album Art on your app even when the music is perfectly tagged is a known problem by Microsoft's Xbox team. So I'm sorry but there doesn't seem to be a workaround for that particular problem as of yet. I surely haven't come across any.
Your second problem is your Xbox Music app crashing whenever you press play on a song, album, playlist or even artist. As soon as you press "play" the app exits EVERY TIME, but the music starts playing in the background as you are guided to your Start screen. Re-opening the app while the music is playing does not show up anything on the Now playing section of the Xbox Music app. This is what you are experiencing as well I assume? I never had this problem until yesterday when I replaced my microSD with a new one, and then re-synchronized my music on to the microSD card. I tried synchronizing my music all over again after formatting the card from the device itself, but no luck. I'll keep you posted if I find a fix. Please confirm that this is the same issue you are going through as well, thanks!

I'm running WP8.1 Update 1 on Nokia Lumia 620 with Lumia Black software. New microSD is a SanDisk Class 4 32Gig. Old microSD was a SanDisk Class 2 8Gig.

Thanks for your info.
About the first problem, looks like I have to wait for another update... But for some information, the Album Arts DID show up before I edited them, and those Album Arts, which were shown were also edited by MYSELF. Now, the app only shows a very, very few Album Arts, the rest are blank. Also, those Album Arts are shown beautifully with whatever player I use, except for Xbox Music.
About the second problem, looks like your issue is different from mine. The app kicked me out, and the music couldn't be played, that's it. Ridiculously, when I tried to play a song with another player> Quitted that app> Switched to Xbox Music, and guess what? Xbox Music continued playing that song, and when that song finished, it kicked me out again, and the music task in background was also killed.
However, looks I have luckily got rid of the second problem. Earlier today, I tried playing a song with Xbox Music again, and it worked! It played the song fluently. 😶 However, the first problem still exist... Hope Microsoft will fix that thing quick 😒. I will try to edit those mp3's again, just test my luck.
For your information, my phone is Lumia 630 running WP8.1 GDR1 with an Apacer 16GB Class 10 SD card.

You could try to use the Tag Editor app from WP Store to change the album art. If that doesn't work, I suggest you to use the old Music Hub from WP8, by downloading the Music Hub Tile shortcut.

Thanks for your tips. I used the Tag Editor one or two months ago, so I know it too. Yes, the app is quite useful, but it can only edit a few basic tags, and download and adding a few hundreds of covers on a phone is... lol 😅. And the music tile is just a shortcut, and a paid shortcut... So... 😒
I will try to edit my Album Arts again, hopefully that will fix the problem.

Could you please tell me what Version of Windows Phone and what device you're using? And if you're using an SD card to store your music, what capacity and class the SD card is?

Nope, haven't found a fix yet.

I am having the exact same problem as SRLumia620. Same events lead up to it as well... updated my sd card. Can't sync a single itunes track without getting this problem. Even after deleting all music and sync'ing one track to the phone's memory card. Note: Most mp3's seem to still work ok though (no album art though). Love to know if there is a solution???

Did a hard reset. The app works now. No crashing when I try to play Music yet. So I conclude that this is not a problem with my microSD card being Class 4 32 Gig, but a problem with the app itself.

You have to hard reset the phone to get it to work. I feel like a broken record today :) Xbox music utilizes an index file that tells the app where the music is located and it's metadata. This file is created when you add music to the phone or sdcard. The index file is located on the phones memory not the sdcard. It is a protected file and cannot be amended or deleted by you. When you amended the metadata on your exisiting music it is now different then the data the music intially had which was stored in Xbox music's index file and the app gets confused. As of right now there is no way to get Xbox music to reindex the music and create a new index file that corresponds to your changed metadata. The only way is to hard reset the phone. This really stinks and I hope they change this eventually. Music apps such as Modernmusic and Onemusic let you reindex music if you make changes, but for some reason Microsoft won't let you other then doing a hard reset.
