Windows Central Question

startbutton & taskbar not working in windows 10 home

My laptop is LENOVO G510. It came with windows 8 single language. I upgraded to windows 8.1 single language a year ago. I updated it to windows 10 home by triggering the update. The upgrade went successfully. But the problem now is the start button, applications in the taskbar(only right click) and icons on the taskbar on the right side(time, battery, wifi etc) are not working. They work if I click them after a gap of ten minutes. But if I click them for a second time immediately, they won't work.

Is it my only problem or it occured to many laptops?
Is there any way to fix it?
Is Microsoft working to fix it soon?

Please inform me.

Same issue here. Worked for what seemed like 10 minutes after the initial first startup, and nothing since then regardless of the fixes and reboots I have tried.

Having the similar problem
It worked OK the first day I upgraded July 30 and stopped working on July 31.
Start button, taskbar, Edge browser and App store all quit working

Now that you're activated, I'd use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to download an ISO and burn a DVD of whatever version you activated, and perform a clean install. Backup all your data first, of course.

I solved my Start button, taskbar, Edge browser and App store problem.
It was self inflicted. I ran a registry cleaner on July 31. Today I restored the previous registry and the problem was solved.

I use Eusing free registry cleaner and it creates a backup file each time it is cleaned.
The backup files are dated so it is easy to pick the correct file.

Use that acc as your main for now. Remove the ms acc from the old one and add it to the new :)

What is the best way to create a new account knowing that the start button does not work?

Control panel :) press windows button + r to open the run box, then type in "control panel" and hit ok..

Or just right-click on the start button and select control panel (might have to wait a few seconds); shortcut key windows button + x

Re: Startbutton & taskbar not working in Windows 10 home, how can I fix it?

I'm not able to create a new account via Control panel>Users,
after "add new user in PC settings" when I click on "add new family member" or "add someone else to this PC" the page closes and nothing happens.
Please help...
