What is an "Insider Fast Configuration Update" please?

I'm back on 10586.11 on my UK Lumia 640 XL, and I have just got an "Insider Fast Configuration Update"; I've had these before, but I don't quite understand what they do (hardly unusual for someone not to understand Microsoft's cryptic, obscure naming of things.)

Did u reset the phone after update? Because usually I'll get the same update sometimes after a hard reset.

Nope. Direct 8.1 GDR2 --> 10586.11 update, with all my apps (didn't reset 8.1 first).

Yeah, sounds like a Microsoft thing to do; try and sound all clever with a cryptic explanation, and have no way of explaining it... LOL

That's just for configuring your phone to receive the fast ring updates. If your phone is configured once you will not receive unless there is an update for the configuration. It's from MS so no need to worry.
