Not necessarily Microsoft, BUT other vendors can put this OS on cheaper devices. Such as is the case with Chrome OS. You can opt for an expensive Chromebook Pixel OR you can get a cheaper Chromebook from ASUS or Acer or whomever. That's my thought. :)
Agree. With the security and benefit of Windows applications for education, its a good deal. As PK said, other manufacturers can come out with even less expensive devices.

They released the 999 Surface Laptop with a target market of college student and professors. Plus they advertise you can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro to expand that market. The OEM's are the one targeting the K thru 12 education market with their own WIndows 10 S devices.
