It's hard to find 8" Windows 10 tablets now a days. They were popular but still disappeared from market due to some mysterious reason.
However, if Microsoft is planning to return to 8" form factor through Neo, they should have keep live tiles alive because it actually worked on such devices if you used the tablet mode.
The problem was that Live tiles were never updated. We needed some space in between tiles, it was supposed to become adaptive with variable flipping speed based on where they are on screen at any point of time and some interaction ability.
Live tiles may not be suited for desktops but they are actually perfect for a mini pcs.
Icons on an 8 inch tablets looks way too tiny and thus becomes difficult to locate. Take a look at home screens of iPad and an Android tablet with lots of unused spaces.
