After a brief hiatus, the Windows Central weekly photo contests are back! Now we've had the holidays, CES and the Windows 10 event come and go, it's time to return to (some) normality. So, we've got a new contest for all the Windows Phone photographers out there with a theme that's pretty apt for a lot of people right now. Cold.

That's not to say that you need to take a picture of snow. Be imaginative, be creative, and show us absolutely anything you think represents cold! The image up top was taken by our own Daniel Rubino with Lumia Camera 5 on the Lumia 930 with a little added HDR for good measure.

Rules

Rules are going to be just like every week. Here they are:

  • Picture must be taken with a Windows Phone
  • Picture must be uploaded to the contest thread (linked below)
  • You have to tell us what device you used to take the picture, and any special software or apps you might have used. Editing your pictures is fine, this is art
  • Feel free to add a little back story, we want to know how the picture came to be
  • You must have used a valid email address to register here at Windows Central, so I know how to contact the winner
  • Only ONE entry per week per person

How to use Tapatalk to post images in the Windows Central forums

Social

We're going to continue our social experiment from last week. Share any pictures you take for the contest on Instagram, Twitter and Fhotoroom using the following hashtags. It's a fun way to at a glance check out your competition and get inspiration. Plus we're building a community of Windows Phone mobile photographers!
Here's how it looks this week.

  • #WCpc
  • #ColdWC

This doesn't count as your entry; it's just a fun way to track the photos on social media. Your entry still needs to be in the forums!

Prize

One winner will get a $25 gift card to the Windows Phone Store. You can use it to buy apps and games in the Windows Phone Store, Windows Store or Xbox Store.
We'll pick a winner Tuesday night (Feb 3) at 11:59 PM ET. Winners will be announced in a blog post for the contest next week.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm inside that "jackpot" area of the blizzard yesterday, I think I got one or two somewhere...

Taken with my Icon and punched up a bit in Lightroom.

(ETA: Hooray for the Return of the Photo Contest! It's one of the reasons I got the Icon in the first place  )

Well, then this is going to be my first post here in the forum. :excited:

I took the picture with my Lumia 830 and the old Lumia Camera app, edited in Photoshop Express. I was sledding with some friends at night and we illuminated the way with some torches.

This is my first photo submission ever. :)

This is from January 24th at around 1:30 in the morning. My girlfriend and I were up late having some drinks and playing games when we realized that the first heavy snowfall of the winter was happening! We both love snow so we sprang up and ran outside, taking pictures and videos, and playing in the snow. I actually used her head as a stabilizer for this picture; it's actually two pictures, one without flash to capture the tree behind our apartment, and one with flash to capture the snow falling. I layered them on top of each other in Photoshop and did a quick Overlay blend, but that was the only editing I did. No adjustments to levels, sharpness, contrast, or anything. It was taken on my Lumia 1020.

Good luck to everyone participating!

Half-frozen Upper Mesa Falls in Idaho back in late December. Taken with my Lumia 830 and edited with the Windows 10 Photos app :)

This photo was taken in 2012 with an HTC Titan so I don't know if it counts for the photo contest but I thought I would share it anyways. This was taken on a day off while working in Barrow, Alaska. We went to the "gun range" (mound of dirt/snow away from the city) that day with one of the locals. There were no filters used.

Taken with my trusty old 820, Lumia camera app and creative studio filter. Just when winter was supposed to be over woke up to this...

Sorry online image kept failing.

Fire and Ice

Taken with my Lumia 1520 on my birthday. Soooooo cold, low visibility, snow everywhere and the poor sun was trying its best to shine through.

No filters or editing of the photo.

This photo was taken last winter. I remember being late to work and had to clean the frozen windows first to be able to drive. I opened the car first to start it up and I couldn't let this great photo opportunity go away. I took out my Lumia 920 i had at a time and grabbed a quick pic. Edited in 6tag since I posted to instagram

This one was shot with Lumia 1020 and edited in Adobe Photoshop CS6. I like it very much and hope you too ;)

Frozen Lake. This is my favorite lake for bird shots, but it was too cold for birdies, people had taken over and were walking on the lake. It was about -15'C.

Shot with: Lumia 1520, using Lumia Camera App
Edited with: Zoner Photo Studio

Hi, I has in Switzerland this weekend visiting family (I'm from Portugal), and if the contest started a few days early, I would make a little bit of effort, now... now I only have a few photos taken on a moving car and a bunch of embarrassing photos with my cousins.

So, I have to choose one of my favorites... This picture was taken when we were in the middle of the woods and everything was white. It was taken if a Lumia 920 inside a moving car, and edit it a little bit with Adobe Photoshop Express for WP.

I went to a lecture in the morning on the bike and it was really cold. :)

Night over the Carpathian Mountains

Taken on Lumia 930 using a 4 sec shutter speed. Outside the scene was pitch black !
No effects added, only resized it in Fotor to be able to upload it on the site (was larger than 5 mb).

I love the fact that you can actually see even the blue color of the sky, while in reality the scene was to dark
to separate the mountains from the sky
, or see the cabins in detail (only the window lights and shades of white that make the roof).

This was taken last year when we got 9 inches of snow--

it shut down everything here in the South.

The snow settled between the blocks of our retaining wall

creating an interesting pattern.

That was clever--forgot the picture. It was taken with a Lumia 1520 with no editing

This photo was taken with my Lumia 1520 and edited in Adobe Photoshop Express. Just wanted to share this explosion of frozen gas bubbles ( I guess from decomposing plant matter) in one of our yard planters. Looked super cool and just begged to be photographed.
