Does anyone know if this is true? Apparently someone on Reddit saw it in the 8.1 emulator.

WP 8.1 does bring native push email for Gmail : windowsphone

It was always available to Windows 8 (Surface and Surface Pro). You get push and server search for GMail over IMAP. On the phone, currently we have no push nor server search over IMAP. I assume WP8.1 will give us both back.

this is wow...iOS don't have native push for Gmail but it do have apps for it (It do have fetch which connects after every 15minutes minimum to check for mails and manual download)...The problem with apps though,It is a clutter, opening another app just to check a gmail's emails :| I mean wtf...

I'm really excited for this, the only email client I use is Gmail so this makes me happy.

Because you set it as exchange before the end of last year. It's not possible anymore.

The Gmail app for iPhone makes it irrelevant what the iOS mail app does and doesn't do.

GMail works much better now on wp8.1. The only reason I'm still on Metromail (a great great app, just a bit slower launch compared to stock) is because I can access all the contacts emails, including just the ones I have used before, instead of only the address book.

Google never play nice, which is a shame because I used to really, really like them.

One thing I also noticed upon 8.1 is now Gmail is working with new application permissions.
    Check out
    https://security.google.com/settings...ns?hl=en&pli=1
And you will see a "Windows Phone" entry in there. Previously it was only Microsoft.

Sorry to bump up an old thread. Is the search for contacts including all the ones not in your contacts but used before still lacking in wp8.1?

I'm coming from a 920, to 930 and I can't search the Google address book like have done with my 920. There's not many threads I find about this so I'm going I'm just doing something wrong and everyone is happily doing it :)
