Why isn't my Nokia Icon no longer updating apps and why am I getting my emails by only manually a refresh?

Nokia Icon no longer: (a) updating apps; (b) email only manually refresh

(a) will not update installed apps AND won't download new apps (both situations always 'pending');
(b) although I've got my various email account settings set for refresh every 15 minutes, they don't - I have to manually open the email account and click on 'refresh'

Check the time on your phone. When it is not set correctly authentication may fail.

Make sure battery saver isn't enabled.
