We'll it's wise to refrain from purchasing Windows 8 now, because many rumors suggest that upgrading from Windows 7 and 8 to Windows 9 will be free, let's hope this is true.

I too had a 520 and I'll answer some of these questions.

No official 9GAG, imgur apps, no Windows Phone 8 Kik app, no Sygic navigation, no(or barely any) Google services, no Flipboard or Feedly, no YouTube, no Camera Awesome(great app), no CPU Z, no Google+, no uTorrent, should I go on?

My device has crashed several times mostly when viewing media, such as playing a gif in 9GAG, or when loading a big image in the imgura app, Atmosphere weather also crashed.

Plus crashing of apps isn't nearly as annoying as what happens to Windows Phone when it crashes. If an app on Windows Phone crashes, that's the least of your problems because the whole OS also crashes with it for a few seconds.

Because you don't support mediocrity? What do you mean by that? The official YouTube app is miles ahead of myTube.
The official youtube cannot even play music in the background and colours are not customisable. And you have to deal with ads. Everything else you said is true. The music duplication glitch is still there in 8.1 but it isn't as bad as the other storage issue. At least that is fixed. Do you still use your 520?

I have used a windows phone for nearly 9 months now I gotta say these phones are really buggy.

I'm just gonna list some of my issues with these phones.

1. No verity of apps

2. Several crashes resulting in phone restarting.

3. App crashes

4. Gmail and other emails saying they are not up to date

5. Songs duplicate on SD card.

These are just some of my issues I have had with these phones. Also, when I first got my windows phone I had to buy a new router because my old one wouldn't let my phone connect to the wifi.

I lost a highschool senior year video memory because after it finished recording it wouldn't save and my phone just restarted.

Lastly, I wanted to build an app like I did with android, but it's impossible on Windows phone when you have to buy almost $200+ for phone, program, windows 8 64bit, pay to dev unlock your phone, and fee for uploading to the store, might explain why there isn't a verity of apps.

These phones wouldn't be all that bad if it was easier to build apps. I hope these phones do well in the future, but right now they are not for me.

I will gives theses phones some credit on how durable they are. Drop this phone several times on concrete no cracks or scratches.

I am not sure whether you are on 8.1 or not but all I can say is that if you are lacking apps for school then you have to switch then. There are alternatives of course but I think you are the type of person who just likes official apps. I suggest you get a new 520 or another windows phone to fix those problems,. I've seen apps like xbox music crash but what you are experiencing is extraordinary. Also you should switch back to android, since you rely on apps so much. Farewell.

I tried developing apps for Windows Phone, Visual Studio is really nice but I would hate paying that much to get the full version.

The SD Card duplication of music is caused by certain apps, I don't think it's an issue of the OS.

Yes apps crashing was pretty annoying when I used to own a Windows Phone.

As a translator/localizer i have thought of developing multiple times for the Windows Platform (as i mentioned i am not a great fan of Android) and merge my skills. Unfortunately, i lead a very busy life (taking one more degree) and Microsoft doesn't make my time worth.
If things change i'd love to try a cheap startup in Asia where people can really express creativity and make high quality apps for the things Asians lack on the platform.
That is another thing that really upsets me. Microsoft disappoints even those willing to work with their platform.

Don't get me wrong, myTube and MetroTube are amazing 3rd party clients and yes the playing music in the background stuff is great, but...

Google often updates algorithms related to YouTube and if something like this happens, myTube and MetroTube can no longer play certain videos until they update their apps.

Plus I also like the ability to minimize videos in a small corner, so that I can search some other videos.

I also really like the fact that scrubbing videos(moving between time) is also better on the official YouTube app.

Furthermore for devices with on screen buttons, the full screen viewing is spot on, not sure if the Lumia 630 has this feature.

Lastly, the sharing options are just spectacular in the official app:

Like I said MetroTube and myTube aren't bad but I think the official YouTube app is still better.

Plus whenever I would show my friends the myTube app they would think it's some kind of porn site(because of the name). :p

1) How many apps do you use on a day to day basis? 1000?
There are tonnes of apps in the store, sure it may not have the games that your friends are playing.. but pester the devs if that is how you feel.

2) Either an update did install correctly or you have a defected phone, the only to find out is to reflash and it should address the crashing if a hard reset does not work. Also you may need to get a better SD card...

3) As above, or it may be a poorly coded app

4) You probably have ticked manually sync

6) I have no fix for this one, as my 920 does not have an SD card :p

7) You should have checked your what you Wi FI channel was set at, set it too high (above 13) and some phones do no connect. However without knowing your phone's model, can only presume that maybe the case.

8) Sounds like the file was to big to save.... not the o/ses fault.

9)Actually you can get the windows phone 8 sdk lite which is free and install it on windows 7, visual studio express is free and a app studio account which is also free. If you want to use the Hyper-V emulator as opposed to your phone for checking, then you will need windows 8. Furthermore you can only develop for Windows phone 8 and a limited number of resolutions with the SDK Lite (just do a internet search...)

$200 is a trivial amount, why?

Just save up $10 over a period of 20 weeks (people probably spent this amount in a coffee shop). Heck if you are strapped for cash, you could have saved $5 dollars a week and sure it will take awhile but with this approach you will find that you can afford just about anything ranging from a new pair of trainers, laptop, tablet and even a car.

Want what you faster? save up more on a weekly basis.

I'm a little confused about this as well--WP8 (and WP7, for that matter), have MetroTube, which is the best YouTube app I've experienced on any phone OS to date (though that is kind of a low bar).

So I should pay for YouTube that is free on android and ios?
YouTube HD is free and it's a terrific app. And blame Google as they refuse to create a YT app for WP. This is well known.

Other than that, I do not see the problems that you see. It's quite the opposite in my opinion. While on Android, the apps/OS crashes were sometimes weekly. Weekly. Since I've been on WP, I have app crash maybe once every two months, and the OS has crashed about three times in the past 18 months.

How is the lack of apps attributable to a buggy phone? Gmail not up to date, how does that make the phone buggy? As for the restarts, I've only read about the new HTC One having this problem, is that your phone?

Seems to me you're just not very pleased with the state of development on Windows Phone. That's a very valid point to some so it deserves merit. But to label a phone as buggy because of missing apps is certainly not fair criticism.

Just let him go. 520s don't cost that much anyway.

Not all the phones are buggy, many of my friends own Lumia 520 from two years & their phone works very well, without any problems. I still have my old Lumia 710 which works very smoothly even today & all the apps & games just work good without any lag
