My daughters of age to get a phone for basic use and I am going to give her a 640 I have laying around. Last time I tried to use it (6 months+ ago) it was laggy and glitchy.

What is everyone using?

I have Version 1703 - OS Build 10.0.15063.674

I just need something stable for battery and basic use (phone/text/camera)

Also not sure if it matters but its unlocked and will be used on Tmobile

Thanks

Do you have an RM-1073/1074?
I would hard reset it if you have not recently... Try that first, and then check for updates. That might help the glitchyness or lag...You could even look into a newer battery. Battery health can play a role in that too.

The 640 should be supported up the latest build of what you currently have 10.0.15063.909 I think. You can only really go up from there if you felt you needed to build 1709. But you would need to edit the registry to trick the update to download. Otherwise you could go backwards I guess to WP 8.1 which in my opinion would not be wise at this point. But it really depends I suppose. If you downgrade the firmware/OS to Windows Phone 8 though at least you know you can get back to Windows 10 mobile if you want to...

Doesn't really matter as you'll get updated to the most recent version allowed for that phone sooner or later.

Or if you want something less-modern but bulletproof, revert to Windows Phone 8.1.

You need to use the upgrade advisor app. It will get you back on Windows 10 and you can update to 1703 without the insider program (I just reset my
640 to get out of the insider program completely
.) The most recent update is 15063.1088, you can't get on the 1709 (15254) updates without some registry trickery. That is where the support for the X40 series stopped.

It says no update is available for me unfortunately.
