I have owned my 4G Xbox 360 slim for almost 3 years. Lately I was prompted "the game requires update and the update can't be found". And I noticed the internal memory shows "unformatted".
Seached online, it is a hardware failure and there is no sulotion but send to Microsoft for an exchange with cost of $79+tax.
Didn't want to do that as the exchanged unit is refurbished and only comes with 90 days warranty. Didn't want to buy a new Xbox 360 as it's almost at EOL. Didn't want to buy Xbox one as it would waste the games I bought and some are not even available.
Here are the steps I took to work around it, simple but many people may not think of it.
1. Clear your system and game updates.
go to settings --> system --> storage, on your remote, press LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X.
2. unplug ethernet cable, remove your wifi connection.
3. reboot xbox
4. Now you can play the games. Of cause your system and game will not get updates, but, who cares right?
