how to get back to my gmail account

I have just been onto my gmail account and had to update some of the security information. it asked about a primary address which I put to Hotmail as didn't really understand what it meant. I then went through all the steps & it was complete however, I cannot access my gmail account only the Hotmail which is just like a new account. please help as I need to access my Gmail account
