Facebook Messenger Log in issue

I have a Lumia 920. Recently I installed Facebook Messenger. Problem is whenever I try to sign in, it says "Could Not Log In - We could not log in at this time." It doesn't even seem to validate my credentials.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing the app, restarting the phone, with and without battery saver but nothing seemed to work. Yesterday I updated my phone to WP 8.1 and since they have disintegrated the messaging hub, I really need the Messenger to work! Please help. Thanks in advance.

Have you uninstalled your old Facebook and downloaded the Facebook app again from the store? Windows 8.1 users get a different version, and it does integrate chat with notifications.

thanks for the reply kehanra99. Tried that...again. I reinstalled the messenger also. But nothing seem to work!
