Running Windows 8 on Nokia 620. All of a sudden I am getting notifications from Windows Store promoting apps. Very annoying and can't figure out how to stop them. Any ideas?

Two places:

Go to store, tap ... at bottom and then tap settings. Tap the "Get suggestions" button and turn that off. Definitely make sure the facebook connection is not connected here.

Now, back to the store settings, scroll on down to the store live tile and turn off "Show today's apps." (I think you have this option, but I'm running 8.1 so I'm working from memory).

Lastly, opt out. On your computer, go to choice dot Microsoft dot com (sorry, I can't paste URL in the Ask a Question forum - WPC has blocked due to spammers), to the Personalized ad preferences (menu bar item), and opt out of ads.
