WhatsApp on iPhone is taking up loads of space - how to get rid of photos & vids?

I have a IPhone 4s and its taking up 3GB of the space - must be photos etc stored in background - 'earlier' - so how do I clear this older stuff out?

We are very familiar with Windows Phones here at WPCentral. However, we are not as familiar with iPhones.
