Hi, I have a Lumia 930 and I have bought an app that displays the time (all night) so the screen stays on but everyone keeps telling me not to use it because the screen uses amoled technology so it has a chance of burning out if on all night.

Please could you tell me if this is true because I would rather lose 79p on a night clock app than a lot more on a new screen. Thank you

Yes, AMOLED is prone to burn in. My 1020 suffers from burn-in after only ~1 year of use.

Does the clock move around the screen or is it in one static location? If it moves every few seconds/minutes, it should be fine.

    What is the App called?

When an image stays in one place on an amoled screen for an extended period of time (one hour plus, etc.), there is a tendency to leave a ghost image behind. Thus the question, is it stationary, or does it move.

That is my 1020 after about 1 year. I think I got unlucky, I don't read many posts at all about this issue.

Hah! I have a 1020 and I've gone through three screens. The original, a replacement of the shattered original, a warranty claim on the whole phone. All three had burn in. WP apps that follow ms' guidelines put white icons in the same place. All very noticeable when burnt in. Exactly like blacklac's phone.

So then, an 'Always On' Glance Screen mode won't cause this burn in thing? Or...? Thanks for the replies.

The app is called night time clock and it does move every minute because it displays the time but the hours will stay for a while. So will it be safe to use or won't it be worth the risk???

Glance moves up and down the screen, so you should be safe. Or Atleast it will take ALOT longer to have an issue cause by Glance.

While I've never had burn-in issues on any AMOLED screen, I did see a GS5 demo unit with severe burn-in. I'd hate to have to look at a screen like that.

Anyway, as long as the clock keeps moving, the burn should take longer to appear.

I just noticed burn in of my waze app on my Lumia 1020. I have been traveling a lot lately where I would drive for a couple of hours. It sucks cause it is noticeable. I did buy the extended Microsoft warranty, I wonder if they will replace it. Has anyone try to replace/exchange their phone at MS store for burn in issue?

I went to the MS store to show them my Burned-in screen on my Lumia 1020 and they gave me enough credit to get an 830.
