Windows Central Question

Hey all,

I bought a used netbook running Windows 10 Technical Preview. I believe the netbook originally ran Windows 7, but the seller mentioned he had replaced it with a few Linux versions before installing Windows 10.

The long and the short of it is I have no license key for Windows 7 on this netbook and I know the Technical Preview versions expire after a time.

Once Windows 10 is officially released, will I have to purchase a copy of Windows 10? I love the OS, but paying $120.00 to install it on my $80.00 netbook makes me feel queasy.

Hey Xandros,

I'm the one that asked the question. Checking This PC/Properties, there is is a Product ID and it says Windows is activated. Is that maybe enough to update once RTM is released, or is that a Product ID specific to the Windows 10 Technical Preview? It's given me hope. I guess I won't know for sure until the update is released.
