Why can't I type question marks or capitalize some letters?

can't type question marks or capitalize some letters

i have windows 8.1 on my lap top and not only wil shift not let me type question marks, but i can also no longer capitalize the letter p. i can use any shift-plus-symbol keys but all of the shift-plus-number symbols seem to work. but if i try the others it just dosent type... whats wrong

Reboot. If that doesn't fix it, try connecting another keyboard and type it.

-If it works, your laptop keyboard may have a hardware issue.
-If it doesn't work, try reinstalling your keyboard driver, then reinstalling Windows as a last resort.

There's more to it of course, but the laptop isn't in front of me to troubleshoot.
