My first time connecting to a bluetooth devise on Windows 10 I ran into an issue where, even though I connected to a bluetooth device I still had to open my sound options to set my bluetooth device as default audio playback device (It was showing as headphones)

Bluetooth playback devices, such as speakers, headphones, headsets, etc. all show as headphones in Windows 10. The reason for this is that there is no bluetooth standard to identify the class of the item being connected, only what types of connectivity it supports. If it supports A2DP for stereo audio, it will identify it as headphones, since that is the most common. It could also be a Bluetooth connection to your car's audio system, headset, headphones, speakers, or whatever uses the audio format.

Windows does not always change the default playback device when turning on bluetooth or even when plugging something into a jack. I have to constantly tell it whether I want to use my laptop speakers or the speakers on my HDMI TV.
