Why is my bottom menu of keyboard not responding?

For instance I'll try to send a text and i'll hit the send icon in the bottom menu but it doesn't do anything. Then I hit the ... many times and I guess if I get it just right it'll finally expand the bottom menu where the phone will then respond to choosing any function. This seems to only happen with the keyboard's bottom menu.
