I have a HTC *X phone running WP8. How do I upgrade to 8.1?

My mobile carrier TMobile never made the update available.

I cant use MS Band 2 or Fitbit with WP8.

Even Windows Insider isn't available for WP8.

Is there any way to o the update? My phone works fine so I am loathe to buy a new one.
