Windows Central Question

Hi,
My brother in law on holiday in France has a Lumia 550. This morning he started his Lumia waiting for the blue blocks and after the blue blocks two running gearing wheels appears. It looks like an update has been started. After about 30 seconds the gearing wheels disappear and a smiley with tears was displayed and the phone was switched off.
A soft reset did not work.
Any idea ?

i believe that the device was low on battery and the update process began and was interrupted was the lack of power and now your device is bricked.

i would suggest to reset the device using Windows Device Recovery Tool, kindly Join our forums so that we can be uptodate with your issue and guide you on the hurdles you may face ahead :)

When you use WDRT, it may not pick up the phone model, especially if the update stopped. Just click 'not detected', then lumia and it should find the UEFI (modern bios). WDRT will then go to work restoring firmware and software to the original 'out of the box' settings.

put it on charger for a couple of hours and then try switching it on - see what happens
