OneNote stopped working on my win 10 phone

[Windows Central Question]

I'm posting on behalf of my father in law as he isn't very IT savvy - He has a Microsoft Lumia 550 device updated to the latest available software level. He is using the OneNote app and yesterday discovered that the app has stopped working - selecting the app simply returns to the standby screen. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, but uninstall does not appear to work at all - is there anything else I can do before a hard reset on the phone please?

The app received an update few hours ago, make sure to update.
Try resetting the app through the settings of the phone.

I have found the reset feature but it is greyed out so cannot access it :-( Any further thoughts/advise please?

@grahambunting, if you haven't already, please try:

1. Soft-Reset: Power button + Volume Down button, until phone vibrates.

My favorite, as of late:

2. Power 'OFF/ON' cycle: press Power button, until the 'slide down to power off' screen appears, and then slide down to power off.

I personally have had great results with option# 2 , seems to clear a sticky cache.
