So I am trying to transfer my mother's Virgin Mobile number to Net10 for her new 520. I get on their website and start the process. During the process, it tells me that I will need an airtime card or a credit card, fair enough. I get to the point of payment and the only option is an airtime card (I only have a credit card).

I call the help number to try and do it there instead. Besides having to go through transferring between people, the lady just talked and talked and repeated herself going through rules. Whatever, I can say "yes, yes, okay, yes" a million times. Finally we start the process again. We get to a point where she says I need to have an airtime card since I am porting a number. I ask if she can give me the exact net10 website to purchase the card. She tells me to wait while she gets that. She then tells me to buy an airtime card on their website that I need to have a Net10 phone number. She then asks if I have one! I'm thinking "Are you f***ing serious?" I tell her "No I don't, that is why I am porting and activating a new SIM card." She then tells me that I need to go purchase one through a retailer.

Right now I am waiting to get the email from Walmart with the airtime card number.

I understand cheap prepaid usually has bad cs (I had Virgin Mobile for a couple years), but there is a difference between having foreign csr and literally not being able to port a number to a new Net10 account without going to a different website or store.

I needed a place to rant because I want to punch something right now! Wasted an hour of my day already, and frankly I don't have hope that it will be simple after I get the airtime card number. Net10 makes Virgin Mobile's cs look like heros!

Really no different than the AT&T store telling me I had to sign a two year contract even though I owned the phone.

Yeah, Net10's setup process is pretty convoluted. I was confused about that at first and the rep that I talked to seemed confused, but eventually was able to tell me that I had to go to a store and buy an airtime card.

So yeah, get your sim card and buy an airtime card from a store (target, walmart, radio shack and probably others have them). If you do that then you can just use the website to port the number and activate the service without ever having to talk to a rep ever again.

You get what you pay for regarding customer service, but I'm still glad I went with Net10. The initial confusion during setup was worth the cheap service to me, and I haven't ever had to call them since then.

I went through the same retarded process as you. Luckily there's a Radio Shack within a 1/2 mile of my house where I had to go and buy a Net10 card. Needless to say, it was my only month with them. Your rant is well deserved.

If you use NET10 with your windows phone (or a Samsung S4) here are the NEW APN settings. Net 10 has changed them in the last few weeks. They changed mine today. It took me over 4 hours to figure this out. DO NOT CALL Net 10 customer support they are too stupid to help anyone. If their prices was not 1/2 the price of At&t i would not use them. Well here is the APN settings that will make your internet & your MMS settings work:
Lets start with the internet first:
(name) (must be LARGE letters) NET10
APN = tfdata (must be small letters)
that is it, do not add or post anything else in your internet APN settings!

Now lets do the MMS settings:
name (must be all Large letters) NET10
category= MMS
MMSC= http://mms-tf.net
APN= tfdata
Proxy address = (must be in small letters) mms3.tracfone.com
Proxy domain = mms-tf.net
Proxy Port = 80

Ok like i said i spent over 4 hours trying to figure out these "New" Apn settings for Net10. I hope this will save you some time! Like i said Please do not waste your time calling NET10 they are complete idiots when it comes to this!! Have a great day!!!
