Pay 800$ for surface 3 or get a convertible?

One thing I know about my self is that I don't sit on bags of money, 800$ is too much.
Surface deserves every penny, but it's expensive :/
So do you suggest getting it? Or should I buy a 2'in one with detachable keyboard?

It really boils down to your usage scenario and the hardware. I usually start with the hardware (CPU/memory/HDD) within my budget and then start exploring. The Surface is IMO overpriced for the performance but it does suit quite a lot of folks out there.

I'm getting myself a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Special Edition with Gen6 i5, 8gb RAM, 500gb HDD w/ 8gb SSD cache, 1080p, 2x USB 3.0, 1x USB 2.0, full size HDMI, SD slot, aluminum construction and active stylus. It's a foldable model, less than .7" thick. I found a steal on Newegg and Dell is directly honoring the price of $589. May even snatch up a DV8P just because.

There's going to be a lot of releases coming up soon, so.. I'm going to try and hold off for a little bit.

Surface products are not worth the money when there are awesome Windows OEMs such as Dell and HP.

Look into Dell Venue 11 Pro certified factory refurbished in Ebay. I scored a Intel i5 Dell Venue 11 Pro 7130 for $400 there.
And depending on your usage, you might be able to get away with Intel Atom Dell venue 11 pro 5130 too.
