I did have the same... very strange but removing and reinstalling whatsapp is the trick! After doing that I never encountered isssues anymore. So remove whatsapp....restart and reinstall wahtsapp... Good luck!

Than the right top part of the screen is elevated to high above the frame of the phone, causing problems with the proximity sensor. See earlier comments....,Some glue might help.....it did with my phone

Reinstalling whatsapp might help. I had the same issue on the not-updated version of windows phone on the 930. Sounds strange but in my case it helped and never came back
