You don't have to... the vast majority of users charge their phone overnight. iOS syncs (and performs a backup) automatically when it is connected to power, compared to WP7, that is pretty magical.

No.. you can invoke a sync manually real easily. When the phone is plugged it, it will sync on it's own.
