Did you try connecting both to a PC via their USB cables and doing a straight copy of the camera roll directory etc?

Just connect phone to PC via the USB cable and copy over what you need. With 8.1 photos sync both low and high res images to onedrive making it a little easier

I have had random restarts on both 8.0 and 8.1. This morning i inserted a replacement SIM to see if my reboots are sim related. So far so good.

Case removal made no difference as the phone rebooted overnight. New sim has arrived so i will see if its sim card related.

Easy test..... Case coming off. Will feed back after 36 hours or so.

@OP I posted a thread on the same subject just before yourself. My Lumina 1020 is exhibiting the same problem. (check my post for full details) With regards the question of a case. I do use a case but I don't feel the phone overheating, which I assume is the point you may be raising?
