Interesting ... I'm on AT&T and i get LTE on my 950XL. I didn't do anything special, just took the sim card from my old phone (Note 5) and placed it in 950XL and i got LTE after 10-15 min from power on ... Maybe is your sim card ...
    My old note 5 lol

I am having a similar issue as well. Went to the AT&T Store to get a nano SIM, and the associate put it in slot SIM 1. So far, have only obtained 4G, no LTE. Thinking about heading back to the store to see if a replacement can fix it, especially if someone managed to get LTE with their SIM from another device.

I've been on the love with at&t for 1 hour and even with a manager. They are telling me that the 950xl is not provisioned for LTE on their network.

I keep telling them that s impossible, it should work just like the 950 and that other people have it using LTE, but getting no where.

I even got a brand new nano sim from at&t!
I think both the account and the individual device (IMEI) must be provisioned for LTE to work. I remember this issue popping up time to time in various forums. I can't explain why it "just works" for some people and not for others..maybe there's an auto-provisioning thing that is breaking down for some people and that is why they need to be manually provisioned.

    for example:

Just started restoring onto my XL, and it shows AT&T LTE in the bar up top. I haven't tested data speeds or connectivity since I'm restoring all my apps right now over Wi-Fi. I'll validate that stuff in a bit.

So you just started doing a device reset and now it's working?

LTE working fine here on my XL.

I popped my SIM card in before I started up the phone for the first time. Most smartphones made in this day and age should automagically recognize the SIM card and adjust the APN settings to match.

Just remember that you won't see the LTE sign if you are on Wi-Fi. You can either disconnect from Wi-Fi to see if it jumps onto LTE or pull down the action center to see the little LTE sign underneath the signal indicators.

If this works out for you, hope this would be a good fix for those who didn't do too much with their phones yet.

I did turn on my phone before going to the store to get a Nano SIM for it. I do wonder if reseting it to factory settings will help with activating LTE.

Went to ATT store and got a free nano sim. Guy scanned it and I popped it in, voila. Restored quickly from my saved 640xl backup. Cellular showing LTE and working fine. First impression, this phone is fast. Plenty to play around with. That's it for now.

Great- looks like I am stuck till Friday now. The AT&T guy said no way it could possibly be a sim card and wouldn't replace it.

they cant provision it over their network?
    aye, now there's the rub.

There is LOTS of discussion elsewhere (Blackberry Priv) about AT&T refusing to provision a non-AT&T unlocked phone.

Should AT&T refuse your phone request to do this, the only answer is to activate your SIM in an AT&T phone with all the bands and features (this can be at an AT&T store, for example) and then simply move it to your non-AT&T unlocked phone. Voila.

Can some of you guys post your LTE speeds? I'm only gotten up to 4 on four bars which is abysmal here in Phoenix. On the 950 I was just testing from AT&T earlier I was hitting over 20. I even paused the store downloads. I'm going to roam the neighborhood a bit and try different signal strengths.

Texts/Calls work great. MMS/data do not. It isn't the phone, but rather something with the network. It shows AT&T 4g as well so I am truly confused.
Try turning off HD Voice on the phone. That solves the MMS problem, and probably the data problem as well.

not always, sometimes it needs a new sim to get provisioned

The SIM card is not provisioned correctly. Only choice is to go to a AT&T store and have them replace the SIM.
    That in itself won't help.

AT&T won't provision a non-AT&T phone. Their system needs to see a fully functional AT&T phone with that SIM card in order to set the parameters of the service for that SIM.

Once that happens, all the features of the 950XL will work when that SIM is inserted.

But since the 950XL is not an AT&T phone, AT&T will refuse to provision it correctly otherwise, even if you ask.

That's quite possible. AT&T's systems know the difference between 950 and 950XL. AT&T-branded 950 is in their system and will work automatically. 950XL is not an AT&T phone and therefore will not work automatically.

Put your SIM card into a modern AT&T-branded phone and let their systems automatically provision the features available for your SIM. Then take it out and put it into the 950XL and voila--all the functions work.

    Dance, AT&T customer, dance!

But 4G... That's not LTE. I also had to get a new SIM and put it straight into the Lumps 950 XL. I'm gonna try the device reset then... Was on the phone with ART for an hour and they couldn't do anything to fix it.

If that's the case, guess I'll have to buy a SIM kit tomorrow where I can put the Nano SIM back into my old 820 to see if it'll work with 4G LTE.

This happens all the time with AT&T. The IMEI on your account needs to be an IMEI of a branded AT&T LTE phone. Just get an IMEI off of a display Note 5 or something and have them add that to your account over the phone or in store.

Instant LTE. I've done this several times. Even had an employee suggest getting an IMEI off of a display unit. It doesn't break anything, just tells their systems to provision your line for LTE. Done.

After doing the device reset I'm still on 4G so back on they phone with ATT, apparently the device provisioning shows that the device doesn't support visual voicemail also. I'm trying to tell them about the suggestion to use another device IMEI like the 950 but I'm not sure they understand.

She just confirmed this model isn't provisioned for LTE like someone said above too
