One feature of my Icon that I know that I would never want to be missing in any of my future devices is wireless charging. Qi charging makes life that much easier. And more and more cars, restaurants, OEM's, etc... Are starting to support Qi charging as well.

Rubino mentioned in his article (Microsoft's Cityman and Talkman flagship Lumia phones and what you need to know | Windows Central) that while the Cityman will have integrated Qi charging, the Talkman may be relegated to a Qi cover.

Rubino does say here that it's possible there could be a replacement back to remedy the problem.

What are your thoughts on integrated vs. cover charging?

I prefer integrated Qi charging, since that works with any cases, even Otterbox, which is the type that I prefer for extra protection and durability.

Definitely integrated. It removes the need to spend even more money to get a feature that should be built into the phone.

I'd prefer some sort of flip case that enhances the charging ability

Qi charging with a case required always makes me feel cheated. Integrated FTW.

Absolutely want the wireless charging, and would prefer an integrated solution, rather than an add-on case. While MS isn't calling the Talkman a 'Flagship', it's still poised as the high-end phone. This is a feature that should be standard, rather than an add-on.

I'm glad MS has stuck with Qi, allowing me to continue with my current charging dock.

Qi is a must after using it for years. I have it in my car (http://forums.windowscentral.com/nok...tm#post2061550), on my desk (http://forums.windowscentral.com/nok...tm#post1999952). So either way, integrated or added on, I'm going to have to have Qi. Of course, integrated is MUCH preferred....

Regardless of how it's implemented will AT&T screw it up seeing as they signed on to the powermat consortium?

I don't have PMA equipment but didn't ATT 830 have both PMA & Qi?

I can say positively my 830 with an ATT logo back worked on Qi chargers.

I bought my Icon at the Microsoft Store, and it actually did come with my choice of either a Nokia Qi Stand or Qi Pad. So there's that. It'd be great if they continued running promotions like that.

I love the built in Qi charging of my Lumia 735 and definitely want it built in on the 950. I love not having to fidget with cables or risk dragging my phone off the nightstand if I accidentally snag the micro USB cable.

Forgive my ignorance. But what's the difference between integrated Qi charging and an add-on case? I use an 830 right now and I notice that the cover has the contact points for charging. Is this integrated Qi charging? I'd appreciate if somebody could explain this to me.

the way some here are talking about integrated versus cover/case may be a little confusing, but yes, the 830 counts as integrated since it's there in the cover you get with your device, and does not require a cover or case bought separately at additional cost.

But if you make it a case and then spec it with extra brittle plastic the consumer gets to buy it again and again and again. Profit!

Really, it comes down to having to add an additional case to the phone to take advantage of wireless charging. Personally, anything that makes the phone larger is a negative for me. I don't want to have an added layer of thickness, nor do I want to have to buy the add-on charging case. But the Cityman dimensions are too big for my tastes, so I won't go that route.

I'm still holding out hope that the Qi charging feature is built in without the need for an additional purchase for a case. Should be included in a flagship phone IMO.

For me, integrated Qi charging is one of the strongest features of Window phone -- one of the reasons I tolerate missing apps. If that goes, I'll probably go too.

I doubt I'd leave. I hate Apple and Android is just awful. Just probably wouldn't buy that particular phone. Not interested in the 950XL. Too big for me. May end up waiting for the Surface phone or a 3rd party offering like the Acer Jade Primo.

So far it's been a bit ambiguous about whether it'll be a case like the 925 and 1020 had or a replacement outer shell like the 820, 730, and others have had. The later would be preferable but I wouldn't mind the former. I always found the design of the ones they had for the 925 nice because it gave it a chance to add some color and leveled off the camera bump. The only thing that bothers me is they keep talking only about a flip cover, which I don't want. If they want to make one, more power to the people that want one, but they better also offer a version that's just the back cover.

The 925 Qi back is great but made out of terrible brittle plastic. I heard the 1020 case is not much better. The only thing worse than paying $30+ for $1.25 worth of plastic and metal coil is having to buy it two or three times because the edges that snap it to the phone break off...

That is a good point, I'd assumed it would just be a replacement back cover, but I did read 'flip cover'. Really not what I would hope for.

My daughter has the Qi case on her 1020, so far it's been fine. She never takes it off, and it hasn't broken. Are you taking yours off the 925, or has it broken through normal wear and tear? I agree, the material price can't be much - it's a little molded plastic and a metal coil - gotta be pennies to make.
