External displays not being recognized automatically

I have the SP4 with the dock unit. I have two monitors connected to the dock via DVI-to-mDP adapters. When I dock the SP4, it is not automatically extending my desktop to those monitors. It sees the monitors under Display Properties, but I have to click on each one and choose "Extend my desktop to this display." Once I got it all set up and working as I wanted, I tried undocking and redocking. One the SP4's display was on when I redocked, and I again had to go into Display Properties and extend the desktop. Shouldn't it remember my settings?

I'm beginning to suspect the issue is with the Surface Dock rather than the Surface itself. Someone else posted here about the Dock not working reliably with external monitors.
