Just found out I've got an upgrade! I can use it on a free 1020 at an MS store, or grab the 1520 for $299 or whatever the price.

Not sure if something that beastly will be my cup-o-Lumia, or if that killer camera and smaller size is the way to go. I'm also partial to the 925 in black. Played with it at an att store and loved the form factor.

Hmmmmm, decisions......

I'd suggest waiting until the 1520 is available in the store and trying it out. At least that way you'll be able to compare all 3 and see which one you like best.

Because ATT has crippled the 1520 by slashing the memory in half to just 16GB and removing wireless charging, its definitely not worth $300 + 2y contract. I would go for the 1020 or wait until 2014 for other devices and hope ATT does not cripple those as well.
If you are ok with the lower specs but much better camera experience and don't want to wait until 2014 go for the 1020 now, also keep in mind that with Lumia Black the camera experience is going to be even better with 36mp RAW photo capabilities.
Finally if money is not of concern go for an unbranded phone instead of ATT one, that is always a better choice but unfortunately a very expensive one.

I believe the Att variant of the 1520 will be $199 on contract.

That's a bit better, but personally I would still not get the crippled ATT version, unless I really really wanted a Phablet and had to have an ATT contract anyway and did not want to spend $$ on the international 1520.

I would get the 1020, try to sell it new for $550 and save the money to buy the 1520 off-contract after adding some extra

I was on the same fence too... I am going back to the 1020. Had it a few months and decided to try something else.... But nothing beats that camera and the even recording! Ya it's smaller, but after using the note 3 and i liked the first two notes it was too long and boxy and the 1520 is longer and boxy.... Too big for me! Just wish they made the 1020, lcd 1080p, and a 5" screen or so.
