Voicemail setup problems--keypad won't appear

So I've been trying to set up voicemail on my 920, but have been having troubles with the screen not turning on when I move the phone away from my ear. Since the keypad is required to do anything with voicemail, this is a problem. In fact, the whole device becomes unresponsive, the only thing that does anything is the power button will sometimes make the screen turn on for maybe half a second. Has anyone else had this happen, and does anyone have suggestions? (yes, I have rebooted the phone and the screen does turn on if I move the phone away from my during a call)
