Can I put an active AT&T sim into an inactive Nokia Lumia just to update it?

I have a lumia 920 with OS version 8.0.10211.204 and I need to update it to at least 8.0.10322.71 so I can use the Preview for Developers app. I have an inactive locked ATT Phone with clean esn, my question is could I put in an active AT&T sim from an iphone 5 to update the lumia, then return the sim back to the iPhone?

Sure you can do that, but the two phones use different size SIMs. Be sure you don't get the nano-sim stuck in the 920's bigger slot.

It would be easier just to use Wi-Fi, you don't have to have a cellular connection to update a phone, in fact it will probably tell you that the update is too big and you need to use Wi-Fi anyway.
