I've already gone to Microsoft support multiple times about this issue. They claim it's "Level 2" service, and that I would need to pay >= $100 for a fix. I realize it's a long shot, but I'm hoping to find a free, simpler solution here. Anyway, I created a backup via external hard drive on an older PC and wanted to access some of that data on another computer. However, every time I attempt to do this, I get a "mounting" error. Tried a bunch of scans and other solutions, but it did not help. Anyone know of any third party software or perhaps an even simpler solution?

Did you copy a bunch of files over to the USB hard disc or actually use imaging software to image the old PC's HDD? If so, what imaging software did you use? Do you get the mounting error when plugging the USB drive into the PC or when you launch your software to open the image?
