Deleting Photos

I have auto photo upload enabled and in order to sort the photos i created folders and moved the photos in their respective folders, all went well and the folders all contained the correct images so i happily deleted them from the main photo page as it is a waste of space to keep two copies of each image only to find that they had been deleted from the folders as well
i am not sure if this is how OneDrive works or if i have to alter a setting to keep the folder images, i really cannot believe that it is designed to keep all the photos on the main page and the same ones in the folders

any help with this would be much appreciated.
