OneDrive doing my head in!

Hi,
I've got a new laptop with Win 11 and integrated OneDrive.
I would like to use OneDrive simply as a backup option, so everything that I put in my hard drive 'Documents' folder is backed up to, and accessible from, an equivalent folder on my OneDrive cloud. I don't want it duplicated on my PC. Is this possible?
So far it seems that OneDrive is trying to do too much, and to become my default saving location yet with manual transfer of files I save on PC required to save to oneDrive, or vice-versa.
I think I'm misunderstanding something here. Please help!
Thank you.
Peter

I understand your problem so for the solution click your OneDrive icon on taskbar and open settings now head on to settings uncheck "Files on Demand - Save space and download files as you use them". Now OneDrive automatically sign-out and sign-in again and now you see problem has gone.
