Why can't we just buy a blank device and let these guys set it up?

Check this out WP8 - WinRT - Etc... on an old HTC phone!

How can you find these people that do this stuff? I mean if the manufacturers cannot deliver what the customers (me & you) want then maybe we need to just have these guys do it.

I suspect that the version of WP8 running on the HD 2 is technically pirated, so that's one reason it cannot be done by a third party.

Although, it does reveal Microsoft's claim that WP7 handsets cannot run WP8, when most of them are more powerful than the HD 2, to be a bit suspect.

This isn't entirely true, supposedly the only thing that works is the start screen and nothing else.

It's obviously not impossible. However, the HD2 can't run WP8 properly and it can only boot off the SD card, internal storage does not work.
