I can't blame completely for Microsoft for this but... One thing I want to say is Please don't install the developer preview ( pure wp8.1). Microsoft said that all windows phone 8 devices will get wp8.1 it is true but not as of now. This pure os is having some performance issues with the hardware (that is what the firmware is expected to fix). On an high end phone such as Lumia 920, I can experience a lag sometimes. I've also heard that low end phones like L520,L620, it is even worse . So, people who are willing to perform the update please stop there (especially for low end phone users) and wait till the actual firmware is released.

Strange, I have a lumia 820 and 520 in my office and both run ok with 8.1. Also I highly recommend a Reset Phone after update, to make it clean. Also immediately after update lots of stuff happen so it may lag for a few minutes: it's changing the Facebook integration, updating some apps, changing accounts settings.

You do know that your advice will be generally ignored don't you ? I downloaded Update 3 / GDR3 via the Preview for Developers and yes there were a few bugs initially but there was an OS fix in mid December to remedy those issue and even though I don't have Lumia Black, just the OS is working as it should be from all accounts. I will wait for the official release of 8.1 to install it via the PforD since my phone won't be getting the Nokia Cyan -by that time the bugs should be worked out

It lagged at first on My ativ s , but after a while it got back to normal. Its actually faster than before(and its not placebo) loading time and app responsiveness has gotten better. (Skype loads instantly, for example)

Honestly...anyone who installs the Developer Preview and expects perfection shouldn't be installing the Dev. Preview...its called a Preview for a reason...we're Microsoft's soak test.

And quite frankly...I'm happy to have it even if I'm accepting some risk on my side.

IF YOU PHONE IS EXPERIENCING ANY SORT OF LAG, JUST GO TO SETTINGS-ABOUT AND RESET YOUR PHONE MANY PEOPLE HAVE USED THIS AND IT STOPPED THE LAG.

it takes a while for your phone to get use to the os so obviously it will be slow at first!
