I hope this is the BEST forum for this.
I have given several people Windows phones as gifts and am about to give someone an L635 I just got from HSN. But the person (my sister) I'm giving it to claims to have a fear of smart phones in general. She has a basic dumb phone and doesn't even have text service. I can't just give her the phone in a box like I did the others because I know she would say its too much trouble or too complicated to set up. I'm not 100% sure she is afraid of them. I know she thinks the plans are much more expensive than they really are and I know her husband has no use for smart phones for reasons I never dug into. So its unlikely but her fear could be a cover story. But I digress.
I am going to add her to our family plan and pay for her service for 6 months or less while she decides if she wants to keep it or keep the dumb phone. I have all my ducks in a row for setting up the phone service but am not clear on the Microsoft account side. I never had a MS account until I bought my first WP in Feb 0f 2013. (had just local accounts on our Win8 PCs at the time). So I created my MS account as part of the switch to WP.
I want to set up a MS account for my sister that I can turn over to her with the new phone so the account creation doesn't turn into a tipping point on accepting the phone.
But I don't even recall the process and suspect I let my phone setup process walk me thru it.
So what would be the steps to set one up for her ahead of time and what things should I avoid? Part of my reason for doing it ahead of time is so I can populate a contact list in the MS account so she won't start with a blank slate with the new 635. I don't think there is a way to migrate her current contacts from her dumb phone since it is dumb and doesn't use the same size sim card.
I really need to make this as seamless as possible. So here is your chance to save someone from a life of dumb phones or even worse: a possible future as an IOS or Android user.
