The Nokia X could outsell the Lumia line by a large margin. This phone is using the Nokia brand and Microsoft doesn't have the rights to use that brand. The success of this product could change the strategy completely.

Microsoft does have right to use that brand for next 10 years if the acquisition goes through. Nokia owns the brand but licensed to Microsoft.

Could be, but I also wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft was behind it the whole time. Maybe they told Nokia to release it before the changeover to save face. Who knows? This is a million customers that will be using Microsoft's services that likely would've otherwise bought another Android.

the Nokia X is dumb. It runs android.

I am sure Microsoft will be laughing all the way to the bank, regardless.
