I think this is pretty stupid on Google. Tens of millions of Chrome users have been infected by some type of data mining by using the extensions from Google's own web store. No wonder Microsoft was hesitant to add extension support in IE.

Chrome itself is a type of spyware. Maybe they figure if the user is already using Chrome willingly they may not have much of an aversion to malware to begin with.
