I put my 1020 in my pocket with a business card - a cardboard one. Now there are two polished patches on the polycarb surface. I've never had this with any other device of any kind. I'm not overly bothered, just disappointed. It's a shame for a brand new phone. The cause I'm sure is the micro-texture, which gives the device its beautiful finish.

Really I'm just posting this so that it comes up on Google if people search for Lumia 1020 worn texture, polish, shiny patches or anything like that. Better that it's known. Obviously don't store a phone with keys or coins, but don't store this one with paper receipts either if you're going to be walking far.

There was a spot on my Lumia as well from using the Camera case. the print on the camera case where it has the CE was embedded into the finish of the phone, so I definitely believe it.
