First, I have been waiting for this phone for months, and years. Months for the 929/Icon. Years for a larger screened Windows phone. I loved my Trophy, then 8X, but always wanted something a bit bigger.

Second, I plan to get this right away, but.....

Does anyone think we'll see this priced at $99 (on contract, which is how I buy) pretty quick from either Amazon or Best Buy? It seems $99 is the sweet spot for past flagship Windows phone, either from AT&T or Verizon (at non-Verizon stores). If I'm not mistaken, the 1520 was $99 from AT&T from day 1. When the 8X first came out, it was $199 at Verizon, but I was able to get it from Best Buy (delivered) for $99.

I do want this phone right away, but I'm torn since I know this will be $99 somewhere pretty soon after launch. Best Buy even has a promo to give you a $50 gift card if you registered your line with them (no strings) and wind up getting your next phone from them.

What do others think?

Everything falls $100 after a month or two and $200 after 6-12 months.

Edit: except an Apple. And even they are seeing some movement these days.

Yea, prices may drop in a month or two, but I've been waiting too long to upgrade, so I'm picking this up at $199. I think that price is very reasonable.

If I remember correctly, the 1520 was only $99 for a limited time, it's currently priced at $199.

If sales are horrible, I guess there's a chance it could drop to $99, but it's priced competitively against other high end phones.

Keep this in perspective also: It's just a phone. Unless your current phone is about to go kaput and you require a new device pronto, don't fret. Waiting a few weeks for a special or a perm price drop is no big deal really. I'm waiting for the 8.1 Blue update myself seeing there is nothing new since my former 925 to really enjoy. By April, I am sure we can get an off-contract Icon for under $500.

Compared to what they're charging for service every month, another $100 ain't so bad.

Wasn't $199 the default for flagships?

But anyways, wait long enough and you will be able to pick it up for $40 on Craigslist, so choose whatever fits your balance of new/soonness and cost.
