Im looking at the new surface 3! Is 2gb of ram enough to do basic tasks like browsing the web and using office? And would it be okay to multitask eg using the internet and word at the same time? Basically school related work.

2 GB of RAM will be great for basic work. Web browsing? It'll be fine, although loading a zillion tabs in Chrome might not go over so well.
It'll be fine for basic Office use as well. And both at the same time!

Heck, I got a decent Starcraft II experience out of my last-gen Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet, which had 2 GB of RAM.

I agree. 2GB of RAM will be fine. People should be more concerned about storage. The base Surface 3 ships with 64GB. But how much is actually available to users, I don't know. What I DO know is that whether it was my Surface RT, Surface 2, or the Insignia 8 or Aspire Switch 11 that I currently own, storage usage by the Windows OS itself steadily grows.

yup, 2GB of ram is fine for basic use. Don't expect to run the latest high end PC games on high or run through photo and video editing (like Adobe stuff with large images/tons of layers and other memory intensive apps), but web surfing, media consumptions, social media, note taking and other items should be fine.

Will it be up-gradable if you want to add more RAM?

4GB is really the minimum for any Windows 8 configuration. Anything less is a hinder.

No Surface was upgradeable, in fact, they are all relatively hard to repair.

I wouldn't expect this to be any different.

Well, that depends on workload. For most mobile users, 2GB is plenty.
Anyone who needs more to be unhindered should probably be heading to the Pro anyway.

In ASUS Note 8 if open 10-20 tab in IE and memory off. On Surface 3 windows is 64bit and needed more memory to comfortable working.

I am on the 2GB ram model. So far it runs like a champ. I use it for work, web browsing, and the occasional game. It has handled everything I have thrown at it. If I need to buckle down and get some serious work done, I have a desktop that does specifically that. I do have space concerns but it does have an SD card slot, which I will take advantage of.

I just got a MS 3 with 2gb ram. I'm liking it. I want to ask what games can I play on 2gb of ram? I know big games like Battlefield 4 or anything won't be good on it but would minecraft or LoL work?
