As we all know at ativ S already has a hack that allows this. Rumors speak of a similar hack for the 920.
Now we have screenshots from China showing what appears to be 3medium tiles on a 720p display running WP8.1 on the anticipated 1520v mini.
While largely unsubstantiated, rumours just before MWC are usually quite accurate. So assuming the rumour and screenshots are accurate, will WP8.1 bring 3 wide tile columns to all 720p devices?
Do note that the rumor has the 1520v's screen at 4.45".

The 2 or 3 columns is set by the manufacturer and is based on screen size, not resolution. The 1320 and 1520 both have 3, but they have 720p and 1080p, respectively. No, 8.1 won't bring 3 tiles unless the OEM says so, which mostly likely won't if it already has 2.

Yeah i remember the case of the 1320. However, this particular set of rumors speak of a 4.55 inch 720p display displaying 3 columns. Yes its a rumor but with MWC so close, and with leakers getting better by the day, it maybe a reasonable basis for assumption.

Still, no specs aside from screen size matters. If the 625, 4.7 in screen, and the 920, 4.5 in screen, don't have 3 columns, then a 4.45 in won't either.
