620 no longer charges quick enough in car to use Drive+

This is an odd one. For months I used my Lumia 620 in my car using a Belkin 1A USB charger whilst using HERE Drive+ sat nav. I'd arrive at my destination with a fully charged battery.

For a while now though the phone uses more power than it receives so I arrive with a battery that has less charge than when I set out. I've bought a PowerGen 2A charger but that has made no difference. Did a recent update to the Drive+ app make it use more power? This problem means I can't really use it for satnav any more as I arrive with a phone that needs charging.

Any help appreciated! (I'm still on WP8 as we haven't received 8.1 in the UK yet, all apps and OS are up to date.)

Could try an official Nokia charger (more expensive I know). If that doesn't work, just return it, stating it's "not fit for purpose" (ie keeping your matching Nokia charged whilst in use).

It's also a possibility the battery is on its way out - they are a couple of years old now, and have been considered "end of line" for quite some time.

Cheapest alternative would probably be having a charger at the destination if that's possible.

Or if spending money isn't really an option, you could always back everything up and do a factory reset and update everything except Drive+ until a long term solution presents itself (such as upgrade time).

Thanks for the comments. Did some searching and it seems it's a common problem with Here Drive+, the frustrating thing is that it didn't used to do it. As seems so often the case with an app 'upgrade' I can only assume a bug has found it's way in. I'll see if it changes when 8.1 eventually arrives.

It is just an idea; what happens if you activate the battery saver and test drive the GPS? As a side note that same thing happened in June to a friend during a road trip with a 920 and WP8.1

After more experimenting I've given up with it. As well as using too much power it made another shocking choice of route tonight. Shame, a real missed opportunity.
