Hey all, i'm new here and currently looking for a first windows 8 phone. I just got back from a store this morning and played with the 620, a lovely device, i was surprised it was so good (i'm used to lagging android :-)). But now the store has a special action: if I give back my old phone I get a 50? reduction on the 720,820 or 920. As I was doubting between the 720 and 620, this brings the price difference between the two at ?40.

Is the 720 worth the ?40 extra? I haven't been able to hold it in my hands (the store didn't have them yet), but as I read they are superb. Only a few concerns:
- Daylight pictures: some samples seem to have an overlight because of the f1.9 lens, is Nokia bringing any updates out for this?
- I travel a lot, so the battery is a big +. But: I read that you don't have here+ on the 720, and as I really want my maps and offline public transport (one of the reasons why i would chose a Lumia), is this going to cause me any problems when I want to travel, or is this also an update which is coming? Here i probably mean the Drive+.
- Gorilla glass is also a difference between the 620 and 720. Do you guys use a screen protector on top of the gorilla glas?
- I assume the 720 has also the awesome nokia city lens?

I was really impressed with the 620 and if you guys believe the 720 is worth the extra ?40, I'll really consider getting a 720 instead of a 620, who's screen is maybe just a notch too small for me.
I'm updating from a very crappy smartphone (galaxy txt) so it sure is not worth ?50. Though I would like to be sure any future updates on WP8 will also be for the 720, as my phones last at least 18-24-36 months. Except this samsung i had now only 17months. Another reason to buy a Lumia ;-)

Hope you guys can help me out!

Go with the 620 because of guaranteed Drive+, good all-round camera and better value.
Also WP8 support is being dropped in <18 months I believe.

I'm also torn between the two, it all depends on what you want but I am going for the 720 mainly because I value the design, good battery and the low-light camera. Couldn't care less about Drive+, I heard though that it will come to Lumia 720 when it's out of beta but you'll have to dosh out extra for it.

Also WP8 support is being dropped in <18 months I believe.

This is an inaccurate statement Microsoft only stated they would release updates for at least 18 months after the OS release but that is not the same as the OS being dropped after 18 months, that is not a hard cut off date for updates.

That's also one of the issues i have with my phone now. Google upgradet gtalk automatically to g hangouts and guess what: phone memory full so i can't install any apps anymore. I guess I'll wait another week and try the 720 too.

Drive+ is (as the name says) mainly for driving i suppose (which i rarely do). As long as here transit would work. The camera on the 720 is of course also a +, though those of the 620 certainly don't look bad! On this forum i have seen some complaints of apps being slow because of the 512mb of ram. Is this a major concern? I really don't play games on my phone, only use skype, newspaper app, financial news app, browsing, whatsapp, train schedule, maps, tripadvisor, translation, agenda, clock, and something very important to me which is runkeeper (i know they quit wp8, but they'll come back if the number of users keeps on growing like this). I don't want to end up with apps which require all 1gb of ram. Then i can directly go for a 920 or 925 instead of the other 2 mentioned here.
It's a difficult choice!

620 has a rat a** battery, which you will end up cursing if you travel or stay away from charger for long periods.

Whoever feels 620 has a better camera needs to do a reality check, the 720 takes amazing shots (you need to have some skills too).

The difference between here and here+, in simple terms is, Here+ = world navigation. here = you put a sim of UK, and you get navigation for UK, offline too. But am not sure how you deal with navigation outside UK with here software.

The 512 ram is no deal breaker, since you are not into any gaming like me :), it runs buttery smooth.

Look at the 720 and 620, 720 looks much hot.

720 does have city lens.

I have installed good amount of apps, none of them ran into troubles with the 512MB Ram, some apps behave weirdly, because the developer doesn't care about the updates, so the OS/Hardware is not at fault, but the app is.

720 is the best bang for the buck, 920 has apoor battery for its hardware. 928/925 dont have external memory slot.

If you travel a lot the 620 is probably better due to the removable battery (I used it a LOT on my HTC Titan and miss it on the Lumia 920). Is the 720 battery removable? Also, HERE Transit only works for the London travel in the UK. I'm in Leeds, and Transit does not work.

720 is a unibody phone.
They could've made it something with a replaceable battery, but they had other plans.

Also, a bit of advice: Unless you absolutely love the 620...
Take the 720. It's simply better all around, and at ?40 more than the 620, it's a steal! I recommend that you also get the DC-16 portable charger, since it doesn't have a removable battery.

True to that, in the video they say the 720 costs double of the 620, here they're priced 259€ and 349. If i would give in my old phone i would get €50 reduction on the 720 (which is 1/3 of the buying price of my old phone).

I'm happy to read about the apps. I'm not a hardcore app user, but still want to be able to easily look up stuff like train, newspaper and ect. Either way, i think both of them will be a huge upgrade for me. Yesterday i had to remove my running app from my android before i could open my images as it didn't have enough memory to open it.
All by all, i sent a mail to ask when the 720 was coming out to their shop. I can buy it already for €350 on the german amazon, but then i don't get the €50 for my old phone :-)
I can't wait to become a WP8 user! I just hope the battery doesn't deteriorate too fast, as this was a huge issue with my current phone.
The Transit looks promising and quite enough for now, I'm pretty sure it will grow in the future too.

I meant that the 620 has good camera for its price class, if i compare it with the phone i have now, its a world of difference. I hope i'll be blown away by the 720!

Yes i also had a look at it. It seems there's too much choice ;-) I think I'll stick to the 720. Going to go at the shop today and see if they have it.

I have had both a 620 and 720. For me the 720 is the better handset. I like the bigger screen and the battery life is good. I can get three days between recharges if I'm not doing anything our of the ordinary with it. And that's without really trying that hard!

The 620 is a great phone for the price. I did love the feel of the device in the hand. But in the end the above features made me keep the 720. My daughter now has the 620.

So I think the 720 is worth the slight premium you pay.

I also had to pick between the Nokia 620 and Nokia 720. The Nokia 620 has it advantages like the removable battery etc. but the time range you will get out of the Nokia 620 battery is much shorter then this of the Nokia 720. If you do travel a lot, then you can get yourself a car charger...

Features are almost the same. The Nokia 620 looks for me like a toy cellphone where the Nokia 720 looks more premium. I would go for the Nokia 720 if I were you. Good luck.

Lasts more than a day with wifi and 3G on all time.

Unlike android wp8 doesn't let tasts run in the background, which simply means no battery consumed while your phone is napping. I can guarantee that you will love wp8 for its stability, smoothness and UI :).
I guess you can purchase one on ebay (won't let you get the 50 buck rebate for your current phone).

Also 820 doesn't have a good battery at all, it'll leak like a guy suffering from loose motion, compared to 720.

True, on the battery life, but i meant for example after 1,5 years when the battery has been charged and uncharged a lot. Do Nokia care centers still exist? The phone before this one i have now was also a Nokia, and I really can't say a bad thing about it, it was broken and they just gave me a brand new one after a year.

Just had a look on ebay, actually they sell them cheaper than in the shop with the €50 rebate, so i could buy it of ebay. Though the warrantly is 12 months, opposed to 24months in Belgium (required by law). It really itches to buy it already, so i don't have to wait another week!

As for the warranty, the default is 1 year, you can extend it by another year for an additional fee. Yes Nokia care centres do exist and 2 weeks ago they replaced my 720 which had a minor casing gap with a new one, which again has the same gap. But am going to visit the Nokia care after the monsoon season :D.

I am not sure what is the law of Belgium as I've never been there, but trust me you won't regret the affair you'll have with a 720, I'm on wp since 20th of April and loving every day of it. The best thing I like is the battery life and smoothness of the UI

Remember the white is glossy, rest are matte. The matte, if you hold it in hands for some time, will absorb the oil and look nasty. The glossy does catch some fingerprints and oil at times, but a wipe of the hand makes it all clean. But then its your personal preference here.

Just ordered a yellow 720 of ebay, in the end i will have it faster now and cheaper (if i sell my old one on ebay too). Do you guys use anything like screen protector or casings for it? I would certainly use a rubber thing around it when i go running, or use a strap for around my arm, as I don't want it to be destroyed after one run ;-)

I can't wait until it arrives!

You can't insert the lanyard in the phone, you need to drill a hole inside it with some microscopic drill.
Since you got a matte, it'll offer you good grip and won't slip from your hands, unless its full of oil or grease haha. mine is glossy but never dropped it.

Why not ask someone you know if they are considering purchasing your phone, or sell the phone to some electronic shop and get cash or buy some merchandise you need from them?, for me ebay (as a seller) was never a good time.

I don't use a screen protector at all, I used to install it the first thing with previous phones, because after 1 day of being in my pocket it would develop some sick scratches even being alone in the pocket. No such problem in the 720. But again, I don't keep anything else in my pocket apart from the phone.

For the cover, get a branded hard case, since your phone is yellow, get a yellow/black hard case, else it'll be a pukey combination of blue/yellow etc.,

Do let me know about the lumia affair once its in hand.

You can Pm me or ask me if you face any trouble migrating data or anything else :)

Got to test it yesterday! I have some real issues and i'm thinking of going to an nokia care centre. It lags so much, the screen just freezes from time to time and i have to reset it. I have already done this +10 times on one day. This really can't be normal i hope! if it doesn't block, awesome device, but i really want to see the blocking solved!
