64-bit Windows?

Does anyone know if our Dell Venue Pro 8s will be getting an OTA that will enable 64-bit Windows? I have read several articles that confirm that "Dell will offer 64-bit OS support for its Venue 8 Pro and Venue 11 Pro tablets running Bay Trail (Atom) later this year" but that doesn't tell me if it will only apply to new DVP8s or our current ones. Anyone know for sure? And will it require a complete re-install and wipe? Also if anyone could clue me in on how big of a deal this would be for us in the first place that would be great.

switching from 32-bit to 64-bit requires a entire reinstallation of Windows from scratch. no "update" will do it.
Also, the tablet only has 2 GB ram. 64-bit requires more RAM so there's no point. plus you're not going to be able to run anything intensive enough to require 64-bit anyway.

The reason given to why DV8P or any tablets using this same Bay Trail chip only ship with 32-bit Windows 8.1 is that there is a problem to get connected standby driver working in 64-bit. Without it, the tablet can't get into connected standby mode (sleep but still able to receive emails) just like all the desktops which is not good for a tablet. Intel promised addresses this problem with a new revised Bay Trail chip early 2014 which also adds a few other enhancements.

I also checked out the processor specs on Intel website. The maximum physical memory supported is 2GB. So a 64-bit Windows will be a waste anyway without any real advantage.

In other words, we are the early adopters that beta testing for Intel.

Nope. The processor in our tablet has known defects and Limitations. It will take a new chip to improve upon.

I read an article today on CNET where a Dell rep stated there would be a 64-bit version of the V8P coming near the end of this year. My guess is they will also come with 4GB of RAM. The main reasons as stated were the delays in getting connected standby to work with a 64-bit version, but there is enough pressure from businesses who want to standardize on 64-bit applications they will make them. It will be the "2nd generation" of these BayTrail Atom tablets, of course there is always a penalty for buying the first generation of something.

There is always a penalty for buying any generation of something. There will always be room for upgrades/updates/improvements.

64-bit requires more RAM so there's no point. plus you're not going to be able to run anything intensive enough to require 64-bit anyway.

64-bit doesn't require more RAM. if you have more than 4GB RAM then that requires 64-bit OS to make use of additional RAM. There are programs out there that may only run on 64-bit and would run fine on a 64--bit machine with 2GB RAM, therefore installing 64-bit windows on our DV8P's would be a nice to have. They may be a tad sluggish but nevertheless they'd still run.

You've resurrected a thread that is nearly a year old, and haven't backed up your claim in regard to 64bit software not requiring more RAM. I'd say that statement requires backing up, since the entire internet apparently believes otherwise:

I just chose that one source, but you can literally find hundreds of others that go into more or less detail on why 64bit software requires more RAM.

You can install Windows 64-bit on a machine running 2gb therefore 64Gb does not "require more RAM." It may not run the best but it's not a requirement.
